Japanese Matcha Bowl - 加藤敏雄 Toshio Kato - Handbuilt Mura-Tenmoku Glazed Kyo-yaki Chawan - 300ml

Japanese Matcha Bowl - 加藤敏雄 Toshio Kato - Handbuilt Mura-Tenmoku Glazed Kyo-yaki Chawan - 300ml

This hantsutsu-gata Kyo-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) sports a 'mura-tenmoku' (斑天目) glaze atop an irregular handbuilt form. This high-iron glaze is primarily black with a subtle 'tea dust' spotting. Kato-san usually makes wheel-thrown tenmoku chawan, so this irregular handbuilt bowl is a bit of a rarity.

Made by Toshio Kato (加藤敏雄) this chawan comes in its original kiribako (wooden paulownia box).

Kyo-yaki (京焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Kyoto, Japan. The pottery traditions of Kyoto date back to the 5th century and are varied in their styles.
