Japanese Matcha Bowl - 龍山 Tatsuyama - 里山窯 Satoyama Kiln - Yohen Cinnabar Glazed Chawan - 400ml

This striking hantsutsu-gata chawan (matcha bowl) features a stunning yohen cinnabar glaze (窯変辰砂 - youhen shinsha). Typically, this type of glaze is predominantly red, however in this chawan, it produced a dazzling multi-coloured finish with shades of purple, blue, red, and beige.

Made by Tatsuyama (龍山) of Satoyama Kiln (里山窯). This vintage bowl comes in its original tomobako (wooden paulownia box).

Mashiko-yaki (益子焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Ceramic production began here towards the end of the Edo Era. Famously, Hamada Shoji produced Mashiko-yaki and is seen as on eof the major figures in the mingei or folk art movement of the 1920s.
