Black Glazed Tokoname-yaki Chawan

This Tokoname-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) is thrown in the classic half-cylindrical (hantsutsu-gata) shape and is coated with a glossy jet black glaze. In wabi fashion, the shape is organic and irregular with a subtly undulating lip.

Made by Nagayanagi Kousei (永柳光生) a Tokoname potter who creates both sculptural pieces and functional wares.
