Handbuilt Brown Tokoname Chawan
This Tokoname-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) is handbuilt in the half-cylindrical (hantsutsu-gata) shape, with a rounded koshi. Like most handbuilt wares, the shape is organic and irregular, a feeling which is contrasted by the grid-like surface texture which lies underneath a dark brown glaze.
Made by Nagayanagi Kousei (永柳光生) a Tokoname potter who creates both sculptural pieces and functional wares.
