Japanese Matcha Bowl - 難波総城 Namba Sōjō - Textured Bizen-yaki Chawan

Japanese Matcha Bowl - 難波総城 Namba Sōjō - Textured Bizen-yaki Chawan

This hantsutsu-gata Bizen-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) features an unglazed finish, typical of Bizen ware, that shows off the dramatic marks, textures, and colour gradients left by the heat and fire during the long wood-firing process. The inside is a metallic red while the outside has a variety of colours and textures.

This bowl was made by Namba Sōjō (難波総城) and ships in its original tomobako (wooden paulownia box).

Born in 1933 Namba Sōjō (難波総城) was originally a clay merchant before becoming an independent potter in 1975.
