Japanese Shiboridashi - 和 Floral Kiyomizu-yaki Teapot - 125ml

Japanese Shiboridashi - 和 Floral Kiyomizu-yaki Teapot - 125ml

This Kiyomizu-yaki shiboridashi (handleless teapot) features a warm grey glaze decorated with white flower. Stamped 和 on the bottom of the lid.

Compared to a kyusu, a shiboridashi (which means ‘squeeze-out’ in Japanese) has a wide, triangular open spout, like a houhin, which allows for fast pouring. However, it has no filter, instead relying on a small gap between the lid and the body, along with small grooves, to separate the tea from the leaves, allowing you to ‘squeeze out’ the last drop.

Kiyomizu-yaki (清水焼) (also called Shimizu-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Gojōzaka district near Kiyomizu Temple, in Kyoto, Japan. A subset of Kyo-yaki which refers to all pottery made in the Kyoto area, Kiyomizu ware has been produced since the 16th century

Dimensions:

10cm (3.9in) - width
7.3cm (2.9in) - height
125ml - capacity

Condition: Very good (slight chip on the spout)
