Set of 5 Tochiri Yōhen Yunomi - 85ml
This set of five Tokoname-yaki kumidashi yunomi (small tea pots) is made from kokudei (黒泥) clay, which has the same properties as the iconic red shudei (朱泥) but is fired in reduction producing a deep black. This pot has a striking yōhen (窯変) gradient from a rich red to a deep black. The outside of cups are decorated with a pattern called 'tochiri' or 'biri', made using a razor blade, while the inside is glazed a pure white, which showcases the colour of the tea.
This piece was made by the highly-respected Gyokko (玉光) Kiln, manned by the master potters of the Umehara family. As these are handmade pieces, there may be slight variations in the shape and colouration.
